It runs through what the app does before, during and after a match. Shorter clips on individual features will follow.
■ In doubles, the receiver now follows the server you pick
Under the rules of table tennis, the first receiver of a doubles game is the player who served to that person in the previous game — so the receiver depends on which of the pair takes the serve. Up to 1.0.1 the app settled the receiver before the server was chosen, so for one of the two choices the display did not match the rule.
From 1.0.2 each of the two options shows the receiver you would get by choosing it. The outcome is on screen before you tap, so there is nothing to re-check afterwards.
■ The call can be Japanese or English
With Japanese selected, game start, change of ends and the end of the match are called in Japanese as well as the points.
The call can be set to off, points only, or points and serving order. It sounds even when the phone is on silent (the ringer setting is untouched), which matters in a gym, where phones tend to stay silenced.
The update is on the App Store now. It runs on iOS 17 and later, with the Apple Watch app on watchOS 10 and later.
